How to play SizeItUp: rounds, scoring and Insight

A game of SizeItUp is five rounds and takes a few minutes. Here is how a round works, how it is scored and what else you can play.

A round, step by step

  1. Read the labels. Under the board you see both objects and whether the round is about height or length. The teal reference is drawn at real size: it is your ruler.
  2. Stretch the orange silhouette. Drag its corner handle or pinch with two fingers. Arrow keys work too, with Shift for bigger jumps. Slide it sideways to line it up, and zoom out if it outgrows the board.
  3. Confirm. Press Confirm, or Enter on a keyboard. The true outline lands on top of yours, with the real size, a short fact and a link to the source.
  4. See how close you got. The reveal card shows your answer, the actual size and how far off you were.

A toggle switches between metric and US units at any time.

How scoring works

Each round is worth up to 100 points, 500 a day. What counts is the ratio between your guess and the truth, so guessing double is exactly as far off as guessing half. Land within 6% and you score the full 100. Twice or half the size scores about 33, and five times off scores nothing.

The ratio rule keeps every scale fair. Missing by 10 cm on a tennis ball is a huge error; missing by 10 cm on the Eiffel Tower barely counts.

After round five you see your total, a round-by-round breakdown and a heatmap of how today's ranked players did. The shareable summary shows one orange square per 20 points, so friends see your score without the answers.

Ranked play and Insight

Anyone can play as a guest. Signing in with Google makes your daily games ranked: you get one ranked attempt per round, and your total joins the daily leaderboard under an anonymous player code. Your streak follows you to any device.

Ranked play earns Insight. Each ranked round is worth 5, finishing all five rounds adds 15, and a strong day earns an accuracy bonus, from 5 for a total of 200 up to 25 for 475 or more. You can earn up to 100 Insight a day across all games, to spend on profile titles and reveal themes in the shop. Insight can't be bought, and nothing in the shop changes your score.

Free play and the archive

Finished for the day? Free play deals endless unranked rounds from each game's whole collection. The archive replays any past daily puzzle. Neither counts toward streaks, the leaderboard or Insight.

Tips for a sharper eye

  • Count instead of eyeballing. Ask how many teal objects would stack up to the orange one.
  • Check the dimension. Read whether the round asks for height or length before you stretch.
  • Give yourself room. Zoom out for big objects so the whole silhouette stays on the board.
